This past weekend, the U14A hockey team participated in the Roedean Autumn Sports Festival. The rain from the previous Thursday and Friday caused havoc with the Friday fixtures. We began late and games for the entire day were cut to 15 minutes. This is a short time and makes it difficult to score goals. Saturday dawned clear and at least we were able to have 20-minute games. We won all our pool games:

St Mary’s Waverley Brescia 1-0

St Mary’s Waverley

Affies B 2-0

St Mary’s Waverley

Helpmekaar 2-0

St Mary’s Waverley

Fourways 5-0

St Mary’s Waverley

St Anne’s 2-0

This put us into the quarter-finals where we played and beat Durban Girls’ College 3-0. Our semi-final was against Herschel where we had two shots saved on the line and had a runaway goal scored against us and so lost 0-1. Sunday morning saw us play Roedean in the third and fourth play-offs. We won this match 3-0. It was fantastic to have a large contingent of the U14 B supporting our final match – thank you so much, girls. This age group is a talented and exciting group of players and we shall watch their progress with interest.
